Well, when the time comes for the real beta, I'd actually like to get in on that. That'd be one way to see if the new game is for me or not. Then again, I'm sure my husband would love for me to stop playing GW altogether, the spoilsport. lol
Alas. My ex fiancé hated me playing GW... and my current gf doesn't understand why i like it, nor why i would want to use the pc for anything other than my photography work .

Come on! This game is still over 2 years out. Relax and lets see how the details fall into place. You are making assumptions with absolutely nothing to base them on.

Just play GW, play the XP, and watch things develop. I do not think that Anet has dropped the ball yet and I have been playing since the Oct '04 beta event. This game will continue to evolve in new and fantastic ways!

Two years can be long and much can still change. But what is currently announced sounds like GW2 will just be "another mmorpg" on the market plus pvponly character and UAX....and I HATE those and I HATE the UAX-idea.
If this is what gw2 will be, it's shelfware for me. At least leaving will be made easy by it

But again, it's at least two years in the future, everything can change and who can now say for sure that he will still be playing gw in 24+ months?

Looking forward to Lord Brittish's new baby now ^^

so when they say the monument will give GW2 chars our name and accomplishments does that mean all our titles will be transferred?, i see both good and bad in this as i wouldnt want all my partly completed titles transferred as i could never finish them then

Thank you
I agree that I prefer the unlock system currently in place... except - full unlock packs are offered in the GW online shop now anyway, so if you can get them for no work in the first place, I suppose they ought to be free for all rather than just those who are willing to fork out the extra cash.

Thumbs down

The way it reads to me, there will be no transfer of character, items, titles, or gold. All we will have to show for our time in GW is a monument. As I approach the 3,500 hour mark with my main character alone, I can't help but think that if there is to be no character transfer, I have very little intrest in GW2. Very, very disapointed in this aspect. Is it just me? Anyone feel the same? Perhaps a petition for character transfer is in order.

It will make more sense to you if you read the actual article.
It is *not* just a monument.

I'm actually lovin' the fact that my character gets to use Raziel's Dragon Sword.

Is it safe to assume that no matter what the race, I'll still be able to have Raziel as my ancestor, or something???

And that still leaves my question: "Will there be factions in Guild Wars 2? Meaning, will Charr be the bad guys, and the humans/etc. good?"

Two thoughts:

1) The World-vs-World PVP idea sounds great! One thing I thought GW was lacking was a way to hop in and out of competitive/PVP play with more than a handful of other players. When you look at some other great competitive online games (not just MMOs) there was always easy access to a server full of other players playing with or against you. I think GW got close with the AB and Aspwenwood, but the wait time in between battles was a serious turn-off. So, yeah... I can't wait to see how this turns out!

2) I really hope that the increased level cap doesn't introduce grind into the game. The cap at 20 is definitely why I'm still playing this game. I would definitely NOT like the idea if it required me to put tons of hours in just to reach a competitive level. The thing about this game that I love is the time I get to spend trying out new skills/strategies instead of going through mindless grinding sessions to increment some numbers (ie. my level).

Nothing moved from the earlier Sim Cities. Civilization 2 didn't have a tie to Civ. MoO 2 wasn't MoO with the same guys. I didn't keep my 10-wheeler from Railroad Tycoon when I started Railroads.

You catch my drift?

Yes, some of you have played a long time. Dwayna knows I have played Guild Wars a long while, too, and I put time in all those other games, as well. But as the article says, GW 2 offers a whole new world, it's not even the same century, and goodness, I feel that it's ok to start fresh! Yes, I'll miss my characters. But I know that the ones I make in GW2 will be even better.
I can see both sides of the arguement. Difficulties in carrying forward (likely linking huge data-bases) vs nostalgia and, let's not forget, effort. I'm sure some of us put a great deal of time, not only into titles, but also obtaining gold, particular items, particular armour. Right now I'm beginning to look into ways of getting some FoW armour. If I do this, I'm not just gonna go out and buy some gold off ebay, I'm gonna out there and get the ectos and shards, or I'm gonna get gold to buy them by selling off other stuff.

We do completely understand that you want to keep your character names. After all, character names are a special part of your Guild Wars experience. So you'll be happy to know that yes, your character name will be reserved for you. If you link a Guild Wars 2 character to a Guild Wars character, the GW2 character will inherit the GW character’s accomplishments, as recorded in your Hall of Monuments. The Hall of Monuments, available through Guild Wars: Eye of the North, will provide access to unique companions, equipment, miniatures, titles, etc. that can’t be obtained any other way in GW2.

I like the whole idea of building a "family history" for my characters in The Hall of Monuments. With the timespan between Guild Wars: Eye of the North and Guild Wars 2, it's a cool idea to pass things--even names--down "through the family."
Since we're linking some aspects like such as titles, passing down names, perhaps even items as suggested here, then why can't we pass on other items? Perhaps create a quest in EotN that eventually allows you to enshrine items, whether it's that crystal sword, that set of Obsidian armour, or even a few plat into some treasure chest or some form on Xunlai storage. This would also permenantly remove it from your GW1 account.

I suppose others might be worried about instant unbalance at the beginning of the game, well, there's a solution to that as well. Make it so there has to be quests to reclaim those items. Quests with requirements. A rite of passage if you will. Make it so that you have to go out and slay a dragon (or something) single-handed and once you're done that you can pull great-great-great-grandma/pa's crystal sword, or dwarven axe out of the stone or throw on their ascended armour and go an use it on your own adventures.

Another way that might prevent abuse is that you can only put in/withdraw items that are customized. Of course, this would prevent shields and off-hands from being transfered, but perhaps those could be customized as well and given some nature of bonus, perhaps a 20% increase in AL or energy. Shipping over the family treasures (perhaps a single Xunlai storage box with a few miscellanious, irreplacable items, materials and gold) would also be nice.

Either way, there are quite a few of us that have invested time and effort into getting items (other's have just ebayed, but meh) and being able to pass down great relics would be very, very cool. If early game inbalance is worrying you, then there are ways around it, two have been suggested above, and with a little thought, I'm sure other, perhaps more elegant solutions could also be found.

I've personally logged nearly 1500 hours over the past 10 months and while I've had many a good time during that period (and a few frustrating ones as well), I do have an investment in my armour, my weapons and my stash of gold. Not losing those things would be an even greater bonus to me.

As for the original item about not being able to port over characters or what-have-you from Diablo to Diablo II, there are a few exceptions. I remember an old game called Wizardry that I used to play many, many, many moons ago. Particularly the 7th chapter. I also played some of the 6th, and intended on playing the 8th, but never had a chance. Even back then, an old DOS game that predated Windows 95, it allowed for the transfer of characters between it's later chapters. You could import them and they would have slightly different story lines.

It's most likely an exception to the rule, but it still is an exception and I'm not even really asking for an exception here. All I'd like is the ability to put some items (armour, weapons, gold, some Red Isis Flowers and Frozen Ectos) into a special kind of storage, removing them from my Guild Wars 1 account and being able to reclaim them with a character named after a revered ancestor of the same class in Guild Wars 2 and only that character. Getting a nice inheritance of 100 plat would also be nice. I wouldn't be opposed to doing a quest chain to prove my worthiness to reclaim them either.

Who ever calls this a WoW clone has no clue what there talking about, because on that logic you could label every other MMORGP out there a WoW clone.
Whats being told now is just prelimanary stuff my guess is, and yes not everyone will like it. Just deal with it, the games not coming out for over 2 years and things are bound to change. Instead of whinning and crying now, join the beta when sign ups occur and vioce your rants their where it will actually matter

Anet has made a fantastic game called guild wars, and I'd expect nothing less of them for Guild Wars 2.

the more I read (and yes I have read all 60 pages ) the more I am not liking gw2......
especially the new movement.....many of the other computer and internet games out there have this different type movement, and well, it makes me physically ill to watch it----gw did this to a point when I first started (and had very little memory in my computer)....if its what I believe it to be then I wont even be able to play the game.
ah well.....guildwars 1 is almost over anyways.....so it wont matter in the long run.

I will play out my characters, get all the titles and armor and then only play on weekends or holidays until the flip the switch on the gw1 servers.....a slow and agonizing death methinks.

I like Shadowbane's idea here I wish Anet would implement this. I have a suggestion. Then the items and weapons of your ancestors will be green and the name of its owner is marked on the said item or weapon. What do you guys think?[/QUOTE]
